Installing SSL certificates in your browser and e-mailclient
First make sure you download and verify the Traxotic Networking root certificate. After succesfull verification install the certificate as described below.
Internet Explorer and Outlook
The following steps describe how to add a cerfiticate to the 'trusted list with certification authorities' in the Windows certificate store. These steps apply to Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. The default Windows certificate store is used by Internet Explorer and Outlook.
- Click the "Start" button and run "mmc.exe" to start the Microsoft Management Console.
- In MMC use the menu "File" -> "Add/Remove Snap-ins..."
- On the left side select "Certificates" and click the "Add" button.
- Now you will be prompted with the question which certificates to manage. Choose "Computer Account" and after that choose "Local Computer".
- Click "OK" to go back to the main screen. Now browse the tree on the left and goto "Console Root" -> "Certificates (Local Computer)" -> "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" -> "Certificates".
- Then use the menu "Action" -> "All Tasks" -> "Import" in order to start the Certificate Import Wizard.
- Browse to the file you downloaded in step 1, select it and click "Next".
- Make sure the certificate is added to the "Trusted Root Certificate Authorities" store and click "Next".
- You will be prompted with the message: "The import was successful".
Firefox and Thunderbird
Firefox and Thunderbird do not use the Windows certificate store. Users of Firefox and/or Thunderbird should add the self-signed root certificate to the application's own certificate database. Take the following steps:
- Open Firefox, click on "Tools" in the menubar and open the "Options" menu.
- Click on "Advanced", then select the tab "Encryption".
- The click on the button that says "View Certificates", then click the tab "Authorities".
- Click the "import" button, browse to the certificate you just downloaded, select it, and click "Ok".
- Now you are asked for which purposes you want to trust the new Certificate Authority. Select the options "Trust this CA to identify web sites" and "Trust this CA to identify email users" and click "Ok".
That's it. No security warnings anymore!
